A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints *** (March 1st)

Posted: March 2, 2010 in Movies

Tonight I watched the movie A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. It has a superstar cast including Robert Downey Jr, Shia Labeouf, Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson and Eric Roberts.

The story is a coming-of-age story about a young Italian kid who grows up and escapes the booze and drug filled life that many of his friends have trapped themselves in. Eventually going on to write a book about his life and becomes famous. He then returns to reconcile with his family and friends who he left behind.

First off, Shia Labeouf does an excellent job in the film. All the acting is great, in fact. BUT I felt the story was weak. There weren’t really any parts that really made it stand out from every other movie about overcoming adversity. The story itself was good not great and had it’s touching moments but overall moved fairly slow. Although the cast was great I feel this move fell short of what it could have been. I wouldn’t discourage you from watching this film but I also wouldn’t recommend you watch it right away.

I give this movie a definite 3 stars out of 5.
