The King of Kong **** (March 3rd)

Posted: March 3, 2010 in Movies

I just finished watching a documentary about Steve Weibe, the Donkey Kong World Record holder, called The King of Kong.

This documentary was incredibly interesting. It follows Steve’s path from being a recently laid off man with a dream of becoming someone important to Steve being the best Donkey Kong player in the world. There are some very touching moments when you learn about Steve’s past and a few failures that he has had to deal with that brought him to where he is today. The filmmakers do an excellent job of really connecting you with Steve and making you hate Billy Mitchell (the previous world record holder). You’d also be surprised at how intense these top notch gamers get when it comes to challenging their scores. I really did enjoy this story and if you are at all interested in video games you’ll find this very interesting. In fact, even if you could care less about old arcade games you should watch this film just to see the often over-looked yet very inspiring story of Steve Weibe.

I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars and highly recommend you check it out.
