The Secret *** (March 6th)

This movie was… interesting… to say the least. It wasn’t necessarily bad but I also wouldn’t say it was good. The concept was quite interesting though.

This movie is about a girl and her mother who get in a car accident causing both of them to be severely injured. When the girl starts to die in the hospital the mother grabs the girls hand and something happens. The mother’s soul is moved from her own body to her daughters. As you may assume, this makes the relationship between her and her husband/dad VERY awkward.

I really enjoyed the study of the dad the most out of all the characters. He never really knew who this girl was and didn’t know how to react to her. David Duchovny plays the dad and does an excellent job showing the struggle within his character whether to love this girl as his wife or his daughter.

The girl’s story on the other hand, I don’t think I ever really understood what was going on. She was predominantly the mom but also the daughter at times but I never really understood why she would switched from one to the other. The ending doesn’t really give you a solid explanation of what happens and is really just… weird.

The greatest redeeming factor in this movie was the music. Nathaniel Mechaly wrote all the music for it and I really liked it. I will definitely be checking into some of his other works.

Overall it was a decent movie. I would say run out and rent it right away but if you see it and feel like watching a pretty OK psychological thriller pick it up. It’s at least a 3 out of 5.
